Grant Activity: Teach undergraduate or graduate courses in any discipline taught at the host institution. Contribute to curriculum development and reconstruction of the country through higher education.
Specialization(s): Top priorities for applications are in political development, nation-building, development of electoral systems, conflict resolution, good governance and dealing with corruption, and economic development. Other fields of interest include environmental protection; eco-tourism; Congolese music, art and literature; archaeology; ethnic studies; linguistics; American studies; and teacher training and curriculum development for English language teaching. Applications are also welcome in other disciplines.
Language: A working knowledge of French is an advantage but not an absolute requirement.
Location: University of Kinshasa or National Pedagogic University of Kinshasa
Length of Grant: 5 months or 10 months
Starting Date: October 2009 for 10 months preferred; 5 months beginning February 2010 possible
Comments: The University of Kinshasa is a comprehensive, major university with a student body of approximately 23,000. National Pedagogic University was also known as an Institute and as University of Kinshasa, Ngaliema. Candidates are encouraged to correspond with CIES for host institution contact information.
