Katherine Hoffman is Professor and Chair of English at Roanoke College in Salem, Virginia. The daughter of a liberal arts college professor and a graduate of Carleton College, she is dedicated to teaching undergraduates and loves the variety and strong sense of community that come with small college life. Her love of travel dates from her teenage experience as an exchange student in France, where she earned a Baccalaureate degree in Philosophy and Letters. She received her M.A. and Ph.D in English from Northwestern University and specializes in Italian and English Renaissance literature and Early Modern women writers, while teaching a variety of courses in British literature, women writers, composition, and humanities. In addition, she has developed a professional interest in pedagogy and faculty development, and served as Roanoke College’s Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning for eight years. In 2006-2007 she was a Fulbright Scholar in Sri Lanka, where she divided her time between teaching British literature, offering pedagogical development workshops to a wide variety of faculty, and studying contemporary Sri Lankan literature.
