The Fulbright Ambassador Program identifies, trains and engages a select group of Fulbright scholar alumni to serve as representatives for the Fulbright program at campus workshops and academic conferences across the United States.

LogoGeorge Munro is a professor of history and former department chair at Virginia Commonwealth University. He holds an undergraduate degree from Wheaton (Illinois) College and a Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

George Munro specializes in eighteenth-century Russian history, having authored numerous articles and reviews. His book, The Most Intentional City: St. Petersburg in the Reign of Catherine the Great, was published in 2008. He currently works on banking and credit among Russia’s merchants. On his lecturer grant he taught “Russian History through American Eyes” in the Faculty of International Relations at St. Petersburg State University. He spent his scholar grant doing archival research on the merchants of Iaroslavl’ province in the latter part of the eighteenth century.

In addition to his scholarly work, Dr. Munro has lectured extensively at the Smithsonian Institution and for travel-study tours by Smithsonian Journeys and the National Geographic Society.
