Biography

 

Dr. Muwanga, a Ugandan national, is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Political Science and Public Administration at Makerere University, Kampala, Uganda. She holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Toronto, Toronto, Canada, a Masters Degree in Area Studies, from London University, London, England; and a Diploma in International Relations from The Institute of Social Studies (ISS), The Hague, The Netherlands.

Multi-disciplinary research interests focus on Governance and the Quality of education at different levels and in different national contexts. Recent publications include: Africa’s New Governance Models: Debating Form and Substance. 2007. Co-edited with Professor J. Oloka-Onyango. Fountain Publishers, Uganda; Literacy Practices in Primary Schools in Uganda: Lessons for Future Interventions. 2006. Fountain Publishers, Kampala, Uganda; and Makerere University in Transition: 1993-2000. 2003. Co-authored with Dr. Nakanyike Musisi. James Curry, Oxford / Fountain Publishers, Kampala, Uganda.

Other interests include out reach and fundraising work in several primary schools in Uganda, the mentoring educationally disadvantaged girls for the Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWE) – Uganda, and coordinating philanthropic projects in education in Uganda. She currently sits on the Executive Boards of two regional associations: African Futures Institute, Pretoria South Africa and The African Association of Political Science (AAPS).
