Dr. Ebrahim Janahi was born in the Kingdom of Bahrain and earned his Bachelor of Engineering degree from the University of Bahrain in 1984. Until 1989 he pursued his interests in aeronautical engineering at the Netherlands Aviation College in Amsterdam and worked at Schipol Airport.
After returning to Bahrain for a short time, Dr. Janahi completed a Masters and Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering and Instrumentation at the University of Manchester Institute of Technology in the UK while learning the practical aspects of his chosen field working as an engineer for BAPCO (the Bahrain Petroleum Company).
Dr. Janahi joined the University of Bahrain in January 1997. After a short time in faculty ranks, he was appointed Chairman of the Chemical Engineering Department in the College of Engineering, a post he held for four years.
His active commitment to higher education led to a series of appointments in the Ministry of Education of the Kingdom of Bahrain. First as Assistant-Undersecretary and then Undersecretary of Education, Dr. Janahi represented Bahrain nationally and internationally and promoted the development of general, technical and higher education throughout his tenure with the MOE. He routinely participated in meetings of UNESCO and the Arab League and was instrumental in developing a modern administrative infrastructure to support the development and quality assurance of education in Bahrain.
In the spring of 2007, a Royal Decree named Dr. Ebrahim Janahi as the sixth President of the University of Bahrain. In this post he continues to advance his vision of achieving excellence in education, connecting the national university to the global knowledge economy and establishing meaningful linkages with industry, community and other learning institutions nationally, regionally and internationally.
Dr. Janahi serves on and supports the work of many boards and advisory committees, including the Medical University of Bahrain, the Bahrain Tender Board and the national education reform project.
Dr. Janahi is married with two children, and is an avid reader in his spare time.
