Abstract

The project is structured on the post war situation in an emergency society such as the Macedonian one. The most sensitive issue here is ethnic conflict which, combined with other factors, such as societal transitions (political, legal, economical, social etc.), has produced a change in the philosophy of the citizens.

The problem is not possible to locate just as a national one. The enormous concentration of small arms and light weapon (SALW) in the country and in the region just keep the Balkan Gun power in stand by warm position. The situation with the security and safety of the citizens, from all national background, especially in the areas affected with war, is still very sensitive. The efforts by the international organizations in the recent time are very significant. The confidence between the police and the citizens in multiethnic areas are still very sensitive.

The project based on empirical foundation, seeks to better understanding the relationship between those doing the policing in the country and those being policed. The special attention will be stressed in the war-affected areas, as well as other multiethnic areas in the country. The problem will be researched through the national, regional and international perspective. Through quantitative and qualitative methodologies research staff will work to identify information and analytical gaps created by the recent conflict. Further steps could be to define those issues, which either facilitate or constrain conflict resolution in post conflict society. For this reason, the research is compatible with the NCS program objectives.
