Vercelli Chair in Communications and European-American Relations (Italy)

Special Deadline: August 1, 2008
Grant Activity: Teach two 30-hour modules, one to undergraduates and one to graduates with an average of 15 students per module. Classes are three 2-hour meetings per week per module. The required material is normally online or hardcopy essays and papers, with a limited number of books in English. The Chair is expected to meet with students (not only those in his/her classes) during office hours. Informal meetings with department members with similar scholarly subjects are organized. The University of Eastern Piedmont will also help facilitate meetings and seminars at other Italian universities, as opportunities arise.
Specialization(s): Communication and history of communication, European-American relations and history of European-American relations, perspectives on 20th-century American communication.
Language: Courses will be taught in English. Italian welcome, but not required. Translators are available, if necessary.
Additional Qualifications: Senior and junior professors are welcome to apply. An awareness of the special needs of non-American, non-native English speaking students will be helpful.
Location: University of Eastern Piedmont Amedeo Avogadro
Length of Grant: 3 months
Starting Date: Between late January and early April 2010
Comments: The department has an advanced computer and media laboratory, and research facilities in Milan and Turin are within easy reach. The teaching commitment takes 3 days a week and the Chair is free to engage in research trips for the remaining time; other possibilities depend upon the type of research in which the Chair is engaged. Past Fulbright Scholars have lived in the city of Turin (45 minutes from Vercelli) and accommodation has often been found through private searches. Residential hotels are available in Vercelli, Turin and Milan.
