Grant Activity: Teach one or two graduate seminars and one lecture course and participate in ongoing research. The Fulbright Commission encourages outreach projects and lectures in Germany.
Specialization(s): American studies with concentration in culture, literature, history, politics
Language: German proficiency is helpful but not required.
Additional Qualifications: Recognition as a scholar and teacher and rank of full or associate professor are required.
Location: Eberhard Karls University--Tuebinge
Length of Grant: 5 months to 10 months
Starting Date: September 2009 preferred; one-semester award beginning either September 2009 or March 2010 will be considered.
Comments: The Tuebinge Distinguished Chair is a new joint initiative of the Fulbright Commission in Berlin and the Eberhard Karls University Tuebinge. The Chair is suitable for scholars who have had little or no prior experience with Germany. It is not available to scholars who have had a grant to Germany within the past 5 years. The Eberhard Karls University Tuebinge has a strong American studies program and cooperates closely with the German-American Institute (DAI) in Tuebinge and the Baden-Wurttemberg branch of the Berlin American Academy. The American Studies program in Tuebinge is currently establishing a new integrative, interdisciplinary M.A. and Ph.D. program which, in addition to American literary and cultural studies, will include American history, political science, sociology, law, art history, media studies, etc. Hence, applications from all these as well as related disciplines are encouraged.
