Overview

In June 2012, the U. S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) announced a competition to identify potential host institutions for the 2013 Afghanistan Junior Faculty Development Program (AJFDP). Proposals were due to CIES by September 14, 2012. The 10-week program sponsors 20 junior faculty from Afghanistan to be placed at one selected U.S. institutions for intensive professional development.

Funded by the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA), this program is administered by the Council for International Exchange of Scholars (CIES), a division of the Institute of International Education (IIE).

The 10-week program is scheduled for early January through mid-March. The program is comprised of the following:

  1. A nine-week program at a U.S. university host campus consisting of a one-week intensive English language training, an orientation, attendance at a relevant professional conference (off campus), and an academic program on campus for the remainder of the eight weeks.

  2. Program wrap-up to be convened in Washington, D.C., conducted by CIES.
